Rest
In Matthew 11:28-30, Jesus says "Come to me, all of you who are tired from carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke and put it on you, and learn from Me, because I am gentle and humble in spirit; and you will find rest. For the yoke I will give you is easy, and the load I will put on you is light.
We can easily become mentally and physically tired from the cares and pressures of the world. When we are feeling our strength being drained, we can take comfort in the words of the psalmist. My mind and body may grow weak, but God is my strength; He is all I ever need.
I can remember a time when if I was resting and I heard someone coming I would jump up and look busy. I bet I'm not the only one who has done this. At the risk of seeming to be lazy or unproductive to others I was wearing myself out to prove them wrong.
I love what Joshua Becker said: Stop the glorification of busy. Busy, in and of itself, is not a badge of honor. It's okay to not be busy. Repeat this with me: It is okay not to be busy.
I saw a sign in a cardiologist's office that read: Busy is a choice, stress is a choice, joy is a choice. Choose wisely.
John 4:6 tells us that Jesus was tired out and sat down by the well. Let's take the time to sit at the well with Jesus when we need our strength renewed.
Oh yes, and one more thing. We need to get comfortable with the word no. Well maybe not so direct, but sort of like "I'm sorry, I would really like to but I just have so much on my plate right now." Most people are very understanding.
Simply Put:
There is no glory in a grind that literally grinds you down to dust. Eve Ewing
