Confidence

One of the definitions, in the dictionary, for confidence is: The feeling or belief that one can rely on someone or something; firm trust.

Like Peter walking toward Jesus on the water, we may start out in confidence toward a certain goal or situation. However, when the wind picks up we start to sink, just as Peter did, because we have taken our eyes off of Jesus. Then, like Peter, we cry out "Save me Lord!" and Jesus reaches out and rescues us. He reprimands us for our lack of trust. We get back into the boat "together" and once again the wind dies down (Matthew 14:28-32).

It's great to have friends who are there for us but God wants us to put our complete confidence and trust in Him.. Psalm 118:08 tells us that it is better to trust in the Lord than to depend on man.
